Toenail & Foot Fungus
What is foot & Toenail Fungus?
Nail fungus is also called onychomycosis (on-ih-koh-my-KOH-sis)
Toenail Fungus is various fungal organisms (fungi), type of mold called dermatophyte which causes tinea unguium. It frequently targets your toenails, but it can also affect your fingernails.
Fungal infections can cause nails to become discolored, thick, fragile, or cracked. Nail's can become separated from nail beds.
Treatment Options
Laser Treatments
Using laser light that passes through the nail and the surrounding tissue. The laser light is absorbed by pigment in the fungi, which causes the pigment to heat up, killing the fungal organism.
Oral Medications
Medication every day for several months & in some cases longer. These medications can affect your liver and interact with other medications, so oral antifungals aren’t for all patients.
Topical Medication
Consistent or regularly applied topical medication right onto your nail(s). Topical medication treats the fungus over time. Topical medications are most effective when paired with oral medications.
*Multiple treatments may be required to achieve desired results, depending on the severity or type of skin irregularity. Patient's results may vary due to individual health, treatment plan and post treatment routine.
